The Federation Board met in-person for the first time since December 2019. FASEB’s leaders invested in audio-video technology to ensure this meeting was engaging and interactive for those participating virtually.
The meeting kicked-off with approval of several science policy items – comments on the proposed framework for the NIH-Wide Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), a letter to the incoming director (not yet named) of the NIH Division of Biomedical Research Workforce (DBRW), and feedback to the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) on the 2022 – 2025 strategic plan. The Board also approved FASEB’s Fiscal Year 2023 funding recommendations for NIH, NSF, and other Federal agencies.
Much meeting time was dedicated to generative exercises to gather Board feedback on the Federation’s future direction. This included exercises to identify forces and factors likely to impact FASEB over the next three to five years, DataWorks!, and DEAI initiatives.
Chief Medical Advisor to the President of United States and Director of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, Anthony S. Fauci, MD, appeared at the meeting to accept the 2020 FASEB Public Service Award, presented by President, Patricia Morris, and Immediate Past President, Louis Justement.
