Assessing Scientific Need for Animal Models (ASNAM) Initiative Promotional Toolkit
FASEB is starting a new initiative to support researchers in developing commentary and perspective articles focused on the current scientific need for animal research and facilitate collaborations between researchers who can present the scientific case for when and why animal models remain essential to biomedical research.
We need your support in making this initiative a success. Below are some resources we encourage you to disseminate among your colleagues and peers who may be interested in participating in such an initiative.

Dear Colleagues,
As public policy on animal research continues to evolve, it is more important than ever for practicing scientists to contribute their expertise and insights to peer-reviewed literature.
To support this effort, FASEB is launching the Assessing Scientific Need for Animal Models (ASNAM) initiative, aimed at empowering researchers to develop commentary and perspective articles that articulate the current scientific need for animal research. FASEB is a coalition of 22 scientific societies, representing over 110,000 biological and biomedical researchers, that aims to support the work of researchers by advocating for informed public policy.
Through this initiative, FASEB will support:
- Assistance in identifying collaborators with complementary expertise
- Professional editorial and manuscript support
- Guidance on journal selection and submission strategy
Participating researchers will be organized into teams according to their subject matter expertise. They will be tasked with writing a vignette of three to five paragraphs that compares a leading animal model used in their research system with a promising NAM for the same system. These vignettes will be combined into cohesive commentary and perspective articles.
Article development, editing, and submission will take place throughout the fall with the goal of submitting for publication near the end of this year. I plan on participating in this FASEB initiative, and I hope you will consider joining me. If you are interested in participating or just learning more, please consider filling out the following interest survey.
Sincerely, Your colleague
