Important Tips about SRC Marketing
- As a trusted peer, you are the best marketing tool for your Science Research Conference. Your enthusiasm and ability to put your finger on the pulse of the research in the scientific community can be the determining factor in promoting your meeting.
- The top reasons for attending an SRC are the relevance of the program to their research, networking, and opportunities to present their own findings. Venue and location, while a draw for some, are much less important according to surveys.
- The vast majority of attendees (55-80%) register in the weeks leading up to the abstract submission deadline, approximately 8 weeks before the conference. Marketing until that point is mostly focused on awareness, but it is still considered extremely valuable.
- Email and word of mouth are the top drivers of registration.
- If you work at a major research institution or university, contact your department's communications team and inquire if they have additional resources available. Many universities can feature your conference on their social media channels, website, or other digital spaces.
- For social media, we recommend focusing primarily on LinkedIn. X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Bluesky are good platforms for posting photos during your conference, but have had limited success with driving registration.
- Highlight any awards or scholarships that may help defer the costs of registering and attending the conference. For more information on fundraising, visit our fundraising resource page, view the Sponsorship One-Pager, or download our Sponsorship Prospectus.
SRC Promotional Toolkits
FASEB Marketing provides a promotional toolkit to use for your meeting. Each kit includes:
-
Marketing One-Pager: This easy-to-digest guide will help you understand your role in promoting your conference, even if you have no prior experience.
-
Email Templates: Jumpstart your email communications with your network by using these messages to generate interest and feature keynote presentations, along with program elements such as workshops and poster sessions.
-
Email and Social Media Graphics: Embed these graphics when sending emails, either at the top of messages or in your signature, to promote your SRC. Use your social media accounts to post the graphics, along with text describing your program.
-
Advertising Graphics: Some organizers’ institutions allow their adspace to be utilized on their websites and other digital spaces. Standard “leaderboard” (728x90 pixels) and “sideboard” (300x250 pixels) ads are available for use. If you need additional graphics in a different size, contact the marketing staff via the information below with the specifications.
-
Flyers: Print these one-page summaries and post them in physical spaces such as a lab or office door. Each has a QR code that takes you directly to your conference webpage.
-
Save-the-Date Slides: If you’re teaching or presenting at other conferences, use these to promote your meeting.
-
Photos of Previous SRCs: Not all SRCs have these available, but you are free to use any included photos in your marketing efforts.
