Board of Directors December 9-10, Meeting Summary

Though the Federation Board met virtually in December 2021, engagement was strong with much of the agenda dedicated to small group discussions to gather feedback on key FASEB programs and initiatives – including FY 2023 federal funding recommendations, publications, and DataWorks!.

The Board also worked to determine the strategic framework for its 2022 work plan focused on OneHealth, early career representative engagement, and scenario planning.

In other actions, the Board approved the Federation’s 2022 Budget and operating plan and reviewed multi-year financial scenarios.  The appointment of co-Editor-in-Chief positions for FASEB BioAdvances to Crislyn D’Souza-Schorey and Yung Hou Wong was also approved (press release).

Sethuraman Panchanathan, PhD, director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) spoke to the Board on challenges facing the nation’s research enterprise globally, the role of the federal government in supporting science, and new initiatives underway at NSF. Dr. Panch was generous with his time and engaged Board members in a lively discussion on shared FASEB and NSF priorities.
