Here are a few recent initiatives illustrating the value of a FASEB membership and our work for you and your society members. Advocating for Sustained Funding for Federal Research Agencies
FASEB’s Capitol Hill Day on March 19, 2025, was a success, with more than 50 scientist advocates from 29 states representing all 22 FASEB member societies in the federation’s annual Capitol Hill Day. Organized and funded by FASEB’s Office of Public Affairs, this annual event allows members of the FASEB Board of Directors, Science Policy Committee, and Howard Garrison Advocacy Fellows to build strong relationships with their members of Congress and bring the voice of scientists to Capitol Hill. FASEB’s Legislative Action Center connects users to their elected officials and provides a platform to send email messages directly to their offices via e-action alerts issued several times a year. It also provides biographical information about members of Congress, as well as their committee assignments and contact information.
The Washington Update provides the latest news on advocacy and science policy issues, allowing members of your society to stay on top of the rapidly changing environment in Washington, including the actions of the new administration. Click here to subscribe!
A new Threats to Federal Research Funding Resource Center includes a curated list of resources related to the new administration’s policies and actions. The Resource Center includes links to FASEB and FASEB member society statements, as well as pending legal cases and decisions, and will be updated regularly.
Providing Member Society with Accurate and Current Policy Information
FASEB’s Science Policy team continues to pivot and adapt its approaches to the shifting policy landscape to ensure Member Societies have access to accurate and current information regarding the federal transition. With federal agencies reducing their external communications and engagement of external stakeholders, such as Requests for Information or other public comment opportunities, the team is working with the Science Policy Committee and its two subcommittees – Animals in Research and Education and Training and Career Opportunities – to develop new resources to support the evolving information needs of the research community during this time of transition. The Meeting Planners Forum aims to provide FASEB member societies’ staff with a platform to discuss meeting and conference-related topics, share ideas, compare best practices, and learn from each other. In 2025, these conversations have centered on impacts on society meetings in the current uncertain environment. The forum is open to any society staff involved in meeting planning. Addressing Trust, Research Integrity, and Gen AI
FASEB Chief Publications, Open Science, and Research Integrity Officer, Dr. Darla Henderson, was featured on a panel focusing on AI policy, tools, & licensing at STM’s Annual Conference. Henderson shared insights from FASEB’s recently released taskforce report, Recommendations for Generative AI in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences, and additional tips from a second confidential report made available to member society leadership to guide the creation of a roadmap for Gen AI at the society level. In March, FASEB joined Bluesky as part of our mission to promote collaborative advocacy and expand the federation’s presence on social media. Follow FASEB on Bluesky to keep up with advocacy and science policy developments in real time, read about the latest updates on research, and connect with other FASEB member societies. FASEB’s Bluesky account will also promote activities and priorities of your society.
