Every day FASEB offers real value to its members by providing programs and services of benefit to you. Here are just a few recent initiatives that demonstrate the value of a FASEB membership and our dedication to you and your society members. Spread the word about these member benefits your society receives—share this information with your leadership and staff. 

Focusing on Strategies to Sustain Your Society and FASEB 
The FASEB Board of Directors, which is made up of representatives from all FASEB Full Member societies, continued to make direct impacts on our short- and long-term planning. The Board met in person in December and heard program updates, reviewed this year’s financial information, and continued its discussion on the viability of a concept for a new organizational structure. Supporting Federal Research Capacity Programs
FASEB Board representatives at Full Member societies and Science Policy Committee members were invited to take part in the FASEB Science Policy Committee Symposium. Jon Lorsch, PhD, Director of NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and Sandra Richardson, PhD, Section Head, EPSCoR at National Science Foundation, presented keynotes. Afterward, participants discussed ongoing barriers and challenges for states with limited research capacity, strategies for expanding cross-regional partnerships, and metrics of success. Read more

Driving Cultural Change for Your Early-Career Researchers
Your society plays a major role in creating a professional culture that is welcoming to researchers who are from groups historically excluded from science. To facilitate cultural change and make a positive impact on your early-career researchers, FASEB is launching a new project, DRIVE (Driving Culture Change in a Federation of Biological Societies via Cohort-Based Early-Career Leaders). The program will be funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation Leading Culture Change through Professional Societies of Biology program. Read more

Easing Your Members' Caregiver Burdens
FASEB selected three additional CARES (Career Advancement and Research Excellence Support) Award recipients, bringing the total to 10 awards given in 2023. Each recipient received $5,000. CARES strives to alleviate researchers’ financial burdens associated with caregiving, thereby allowing them to pursue their career progression. Applications for 2024 CARES awards will open in March; encourage your members to apply.  Read more

Bringing the Science to Your Members 24/7
In October, FASEB announced it is partnering with Wiley to launch FASEB Conferences On-Demand. This new service will feature original content from FASEB’s Science Research Conferences, providing your members with on-demand access—wherever and whenever—to the latest research findings in the biological and biomedical sciences. The site is expected to launch in late Spring. Read more

Supporting Your Society's Science
Two opportunities to support your society's science and members occurred. Applications were received for organizing a Science Research Conference in 2025. Applications will remain open through February 8. In addition, your members had access to our online Catalyst Conferences, which covered a variety of topics. Encourage your members to shine a spotlight on your society’s science by organizing an SRC and/or a Catalyst Conference. Read more

Reinforcing Data Management Best Practices
FASEB DataWorks! continued its work to facilitate a culture of data sharing and reuse. Best practices in the use of metadata in your members’ research was part of the ongoing DataWorks! Salon series. In addition, new tools were added in DataWorks! Help Desk, including how-to guides and resources to help your members develop data management plans in alignment with NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. We thank your members who served as beta testers for Help Desk. Read more

Highlighting Researchers' Captivating Imagery
FASEB’s BioArt Awards cast a spotlight on researchers’ captivating research images. This year’s award-winning entries captured imagery from biological and biomedical research that promises novel approaches in such areas as ovarian cancer treatments, explores the connection between axons and our every movement, studies parasites’ effect on cardiac fibroblast's cytoplasm, and follows the metamorphosis of a sea urchin’s nervous system. • Individuals at Full Member societies are eligible to serve on the FASEB Science Policy Committee, which helps to influence the life sciences field.
• FASEB has several special interest groups (e.g., Public Affairs, Meetings and Conferences, Marketing and Communications, Publications, and DEAI to name a few) your staff can take part in for learning and networking.
