The March 2024 FASEB Board Meeting was held in conjunction with FASEB's in-person Capitol Hill Day where 48 advocates representing 19 societies and 26 states completed meetings with just over 100 House/Senate offices.
The meeting kicked off with Board approval of FASEB’s comments on the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Strategic Plan for Data Science. The Board then received updates on the newly formed Generative AI Task Force and FASEB’s efforts to obtain third-party funding.
Board members provided thoughtful feedback on the impact of the proposed starting NRSA postdoc salary recommended by the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director Working Group on Re-envisioning NIH-Supported Postdoctoral Training in December 2023.
After reviewing the 2023 unaudited financial results, the FASEB staff presented an updated multi-year forecast and led the Board in discussions on its implications on FASEB’s future strategic direction. This discussion also included a presentation of an updated Core Operating Model which was last reviewed with the Board in August 2023.
The Board was provided with an in-depth review of proposed updates to the DataWorks! business plan to reflect current policy landscape, uptake and engagement with existing programs, and revenue strategy.
The meeting concluded after a discussion on the second future focus summit which took place on March 15-16.
