Board of Directors June 9-10, 2022, Meeting Summary

With continued investment in audio-video technology to ensure the meeting was engaging and interactive for all participants, the Federation Board held its second hybrid meeting June 9-10, 2022.

The meeting began with a focus on science policy and advocacy. The Board approved comments to the National Science Foundation (NSF) regarding proposed updates to the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG). Members also provided input to inform the National Academies Institute of Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) Standing Committee for the Care and Use of Animals first work phase.  

The Board received reports on the progress of the 2022 Work Plan through updates provided by the Early Career Engagement, OneHealth, and Scenario Planning task forces. Additionally, members spent significant time providing feedback and direction to further inform the work of these groups.  

The Board approved appointing Brita Kilburg-Basnyat and Kristen Walker as Early Career Representatives on the Science Policy Committee, and Denise Cornelius and Sophia Kaska as Early Career Representatives on the Board of Directors. These appointments run from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024. 

The meeting concluded with recognition of Board members ending their terms on June 30: Dennis Jones (inaugural Board Early Career Representative); Vijay Shivaswamy (AFMR); Philip E. Dawson (APEPS); Christine P. Curran (BDRP); Jeffrey L. Schwartz (EMGS); Terry Magnuson (GSA); and Rebekah L. Gundry (US HUPO).  Patricia L. Morris formally passed the presidency to Kevin C. Kregel, who took office on July 1, 2022, and the Board expressed their heartfelt appreciation for Immediate Past President, Louis B. Justement.
