April 1–June 30, 2025
Every day, FASEB delivers real value to its members through a variety of programs and services that benefit you and your society. Here are a few recent initiatives demonstrating FASEB’s commitment to supporting every member of your society. Share this information with your society’s leadership to spread the word about these benefits.
Serving as the Collective Voice for Biological and Biomedical Researchers Nationwide
FASEB responded to multiple federal requests and proposed rules, including opposing the reclassification of senior policy-influencing positions within the civil service and legislation that would ban federal funding for animal research, and supporting regulatory reforms to reduce administrative burdens. Helping Your Members Advocate for Science - Announcing Advocacy Town Halls
FASEB is launching bi-weekly Advocacy Town Halls to boost advocacy efforts. These meetings, hosted by FASEB staff, will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from noon to 1 pm ET, starting August 5. The meetings are virtual and open to anyone interested in supporting FASEB's advocacy. The meetings will include updates from Capitol Hill, science policy news, a Q&A session, and an Open Mic segment for sharing advocacy efforts and opinions. One-time registration required. Engaging in Legal Advocacy Against Wrongful Termination of NIH Grants
FASEB joined other life science organizations in filing amicus briefs supporting plaintiffs challenging the termination of NIH grants under the MOSAIC program, emphasizing the importance of diversity-supporting merit-based awards. A federal judge ruled the grant terminations illegal, marking a critical step toward reinstatement. The case is now being considered for review by the U.S. Supreme Court. Continue reading
Supporting Your Society’s Convening Power
The Meeting Planners Forum aims to provide FASEB member societies’ staff with a platform to discuss meeting and conference-related topics, share ideas, compare best practices, and learn from each other. In addition to holding online update and trend meetings, the FASEB Meeting Planner group recently invited the IHG National Representative to share hospitality trends at a hosted lunch. Cecilia Bell of IHG:
- Delivered strategic insights on the evolving hotel industry
- Highlighted implications for scientific meeting planning
- Provided takeaways and ways to think about adapting to shifting venue landscapes from the hotel perspective
The forum is open to any society staff involved in meeting planning. Contact Victoria Forlini, Director, Office of Scientific Meetings and Conferences, for more information. Learn more about FASEB’s other Special Interest Groups.
Providing Resources to Support Research Mentor Training
Is your society or institution planning to host research mentor training and in need of a facilitator? In June, Drs. Yvette Seger and Mike Schaller – Co-Principal Investigators on FASEB’s MOSAIC grant – completed Facilitator Training through the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER). As trained facilitators, they are available to facilitate research mentor training using CIMER’s Entering Mentoring curriculum. The cost for designing and implementing a mentor training workshop to best serve your members is not included as part of FASEB dues and will incur an additional fee. However, FASEB member societies will be given priority scheduling consideration. Contact Yvette Seger for more information.
FASEB Thanks Our Volunteers
The support and commitment of FASEB volunteers are critical to serving our member societies, providing valuable programs to the broader scientific community, and maintaining FASEB’s position as a national leader in science policy and advocacy. FASEB is grateful to acknowledge those volunteers whose terms ended on June 30, 2025. Full list of outgoing volunteers
