Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion Position Description/Responsibilities
Term
One year beginning on July 1 of the year following their term as Vice President-Elect for Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) and ending on June 30 of the following year.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of FASEB’s DEAI Strategic Plan
- Partner with staff to develop and prepare for DEAI Committee meetings
- Lead monthly DEAI Committee meetings (voting only in the event of a tie)
- Represent the DEAI Committee at monthly FASEB Board meetings as a voting member
- Participate in DEAI subcommittee meetings, as available and interested (non-voting)
- Participate in weekly Executive Committee meetings as a voting member
- Support development of DEAI programs and related efforts
- Present subcommittee recommendations to the Board
- Serve as an ambassador to promote FASEB’s DEAI initiatives
- Identify opportunities for FASEB to collaborate with FASEB member societies and external entities/organizations on DEAI initiatives and share best practices.

The following are personal characteristics that the Vice President for DEAI should have:
- Demonstrated passion for DEAI
- Record of professional service, including active membership in a FASEB society
- Strong interest in DEAI policy issues in the biological and biomedical sciences, and prior experience communicating those issues to policy makers and/or the public
- Understand the challenges and concerns of historically excluded researchers in the biological and biomedical research communities
- Expertise relevant to the development and implementation of DEAI and/or professional development programming for research-intensive and associated career paths
- Demonstrated experience communicating a vision and transforming strategy into action with proven results
- Outstanding interpersonal skills that build relationships, internally and externally, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build consensus
- Knowledge and experience in biological and biomedical research (or comparable experience)
- Experience serving on an organizational governance Board, Council or Committee
- Willingness to leverage professional networks (individual and/or group connections) for subject matter expertise
