Member, CARES Subcommittee
FASEB CARES (Career Advancement and Research Excellence Support), a component of FASEB's Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) initiative, provides financial support to alleviate burdens associated with caregiving—enabling researchers at FASEB member societies to continue their scientific training, professional development, and career progression.
The FASEB Awards Subcommittee reviews applications and recommends CARES recipients to the DEAI Committee for final selection.
Eligibility
Responsibilities
- Participate in subcommittee meetings (ability to participate in 75% or more meetings expected)
- Review applications and recommend recipients based on program criteria
- Review participants’ feedback and implement program enhancements, as appropriate.
- Serve as an advocate for the CARES program within their society and the broader bioscience community.
Characteristics of successful applicants may include the following:
FASEB seeks staff and active society subcommittee members with the following characteristics listed below. Only members and staff of full member societies are eligible.
- Demonstrated passion for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
- Familiarity with award programs
- Experience participating on review committees
- Familiarity with child- and elder-care issues
- Familiarity with the barriers that exist in academic promotion and tenure processes
- Thrives in collaborative environments
- Willingness to leverage professional networks (individual and/or group connections) to promote the CARES program
Biographic, demographic, and scientific diversity in governance is an overarching goal of the Federation, and FASEB seeks subcommittee members who represent this diversity.
Term
Members serve terms of three (3) years beginning on July 1 of the year appointed and ending on June 30 of the third year. Members may be reappointed for one additional consecutive three (3) year term with DEAI committee approval.
Annual Time Commitment
- One 1-hour onboarding session.
- Two 1-hour video conference per application cycle to discuss and review applications.
- Approximately 1-2 hours prep time to review application materials prior to each meeting.
