FASEB Officer Election Policy and Procedures (2024)


Open Positions

The President-Elect shall be elected annually by the Board from directors and officers currently serving on the Board and those who have served on the Board within the prior two (2) years.

The Vice President-Elect for Science Policy shall be elected annually by the Board from those directors serving on the Board and those who have served on the Board within the prior two (2) years and current members of the Science Policy Committee.

The  Vice President-Elect for DEAI shall be elected annually by the Board from those directors serving on the Board and those who have served within the prior four (4) years, and current members of the following committees: Audit, Development, DEAI, Excellence in Science Award, Finance, Leadership Development, Meetings, Membership, Publications, and Science Policy.

Two Executive Committee Representatives shall be elected annually by the Board from those directors who will serve on the Board in the upcoming year beginning July 1.

Member society staff are not eligible to run for an Officer position.

Early Career Representatives are not eligible to run for an Officer position.

No individual shall serve more than one term in the same Officer position. No individual shall serve in two Officer positions simultaneously. (FASEB bylaws Article V, Section 3).

  4. Describe a FASEB or other volunteer leadership experience and how it will assist you in serving in this position. NOTE: an answer to this question is not required for Executive Committee Representatives.

Election Procedure

President-Elect/Vice President-Elect for Science Policy/Vice President-Elect for DEAI

The Leadership Development Committee will determine the final slate of no more than three President-Elect and Vice President-Elect candidates by March 12, 2024. The slate shall be presented to the Federation Board by March 16, 2024. At that time, all voting members will receive voting instructions and the time and date voting will close.

The ballot will require each voting member to rank the candidates in preference from 1 to N, where N is the number of candidates.

The counting of ballots proceeds as follows: Each candidate receives N points for each ballot where that candidate receives a 1st preference, N-1 points for each ballot where that candidate receives a 2nd preference, etc. The winning candidate will be the candidate with the most points.

If two or more candidates tie for first place, the winning candidate will be the candidate with the most 1st preferences. If the tie is not broken in this manner, the process will continue by determining which candidate has the most 2nd preferences, etc. If this process fails to break the tie, a separate runoff election will be held between the tied candidates.

Executive Committee Representatives

The Leadership Development Committee will determine the final slate of no more than three Executive Committee Representatives at their meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. The slate shall be presented to the Federation Board no later than Friday, May 17. At that time, all voting members will receive voting instructions and the time and date voting will close.

The ballot will require each voting member to rank the candidates in preference from 1 to N, where N is the number of candidates.

The counting of ballots proceeds as follows: Each candidate receives N points for each ballot where that candidate receives a 1st preference, N-1 points for each ballot where that candidate receives a 2nd preference, etc. The winning candidate will be the candidate with the most points.
